About me

From the mid 1980’s I have a background of working in Adult Mental Health, and wide ongoing experience of counselling, management, assessment and consultation in different settings including the NHS in both a psychiatric hospital and in Primary Care; Industry; and in several voluntary sector counselling organisations

I qualified as a counsellor in 1990 and have continued with ongoing professional development since then.  My initial training is in psychodynamic counselling, and over the years additional trainings in different modalities and theoretical approaches (including CBT, mindfulness, person centred, psychoanalytic and attachment theory) have added to the richness of what I am able to provide, as well as helping to maintain a freshness and sense of life in the work.

My qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma and an MA in psychodynamic counselling, as well as several other qualifications in psychology, counselling and brief therapy. I am a registered NHS practitioner; an Accredited Adoption Counsellor and have trained for 4 years in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I have provided counselling to counselling trainees during their training: am a Registered member of CMCS and am Registered and Accredited with BACP.  More recently I have done further study in Attachment Theory and Psycho Neurobiology.

I have a particular interest in adoption related issues. I completed my initial training in therapeutic counselling for adoption in 2009 and have continued to develop this area of my work. I am registered to provide Attachment Focussed Therapy, Therapeutic Counselling, and Birth Family Member Support Service through LINK Barnardos in addition to other kinds of work offered within the LINK service, and am always working towards deepening my understanding and experience in this area.

I am also interested in spirituality and spiritual growth and have completed various trainings which subsequently lead to the Spiritual Companions course, and in addition I am registered with the Churches Ministerial Counselling Service (CMCS).

As part of the Old Town Counselling and Psychotherapy Service I have had a private practice at my light and welcoming consulting room in a listed building in the Old Town in Hemel Hempstead since 1990, where I offer adults and older adults once or twice weekly appointments in long term open ended work, or short term work.
