Ethical practice and Confidentiality:

I am a Registered Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and as such work within the BACP ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. Full details of what this means can be seen on the BACP website.

All sessions are completely confidential, subject to the legal, professional and ethical requirements regarding the safety of you and those around you. If this area is of concern to you, please do ask and we can discuss it more fully to ensure everything is clear and you are happy with it.

Sessions and the work:

Counselling can be offered in a long term open ended way, to allow plenty of time for issues to emerge and be properly understood and worked through. It can also be as a short term fixed agreement to deal with a specific situation or if for any reason longer work is not possible. Either of these approaches can be once or twice weekly

Sessions are 50 minutes long and will tend to be offered in a regular pattern at the same day and time every week. If you are coming twice a week this will still apply, as the regularity is valuable and helps create a secure pattern that facilitates the process. However, if you work shifts or have other reasons why this is difficult this can be discussed and accommodated.

The first session is aimed at enabling us to meet and begin to get the feel of what it would be like to work together. It also helps you to see how you like the premises and how you find the journey there, and to make sure any questions you have are answered. Research consistently demonstrates that the therapeutic relationship is most important in achieving a successful outcome, so it is important for you to feel that you have found the right person to do this work with.

Fees and payments:

The fee for the first session is £50, normally payable that day, and during this session the fees for ongoing work can be discussed. The normal fee is currently £45 per session. I also maintain two low fee places to help those who would find a normal fee difficult but who would still like to come. I am not able to offer places free of charge but in case of genuine need I do want to help with this area when I can.

For ongoing counselling I provide a bill at the end of each month which can be paid either by cash, cheque or bank transfer. For Adoption related work it is sometimes possible to obtain grants from LINK. Fuller details about all this available on request.

Equality and disability:

I am committed to providing a fair, equal and inclusive service to anyone, without discrimination on any issue.

However, as the building is listed and the consulting room is upstairs I am sorry but there is no wheelchair access and you will need to be able to negotiate the staircase of an old building.

Toilet facilities are provided.
